Classes at The New Flesh Workshop
The New Flesh Workshop is a collaborative workspace for Biohackers, Designers and Fabricators.
New Flesh offers classes on subjects in DIY Technology, Fabrication, Art and Science. We are currently hosting all-ages classes for adults and children (when accompanied by a guardian), and will soon be offering a dedicated afters-school program for kids ages 8-18. We provide fun, hands-on, immersive courses geared towards direct experiential learning. We also host private tutoring sessions by appointment for various topics in Science, Art and Math.
Parents and children working as teams to make a single in-class project only pay ONE fee!

Latex Mask Making, Mold Making and Casting, D.I.Y Electronics, Intro to Sculpture, Advanced Sculpture, D.I.Y Animatronics.
Monster Masks: Mask/Appliance Sculpting and Casting
ACCELERATED HALLOWEEN COURSE!
Learn how to make latex monster masks and appliances from scratch! Appliances are prosthetics used for movie makeup that can be painted and attached with spirit gum to create realistic custom make-up effects. Participants cast their face or other body-part and sculpt their own monstrous new features to be molded and cast in latex. This class is MESSY! Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Class Time: 6pm-8pm
Class Dates: October 24, 25, 26.
Cost:$120 per course, $40 for Walk-Ins
Make your own remote control animatronic puppet head! This course teaches the basics of animatronic puppets like those used in monster movies. Participants will sculpt an armature to house animatronic actuators used to animate the eyes and mouth of a custom creature. Participants then sculpt, mold, cast and paint a skin for their creature! This class is MESSY! Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Cost: $120 per course, $20 for Walk-ins
Participants in this course will learn the fundamentals of electronics by constructing D.I.Y. versions of common electronic and electromechanical devices. All projects are hands-on, using everyday materials. Projects include D.I.Y. Battery Banks, Speakers, Motors, Capacitors, Transmitters and Radio Receivers. Great for kids and parents!
Class time/Dates: 6pm-7pm

Mold Making and Casting
An in depth course on technical and artistic mold making and casting. Learn how to make various molds using plaster, alginate, silicone and acrylic and cast with several types of material. Molding techniques include Single and multi-part molds, Special Effects Style Body Casting, Prosthetic Style Body Casting, Fiberglass Molds, Wax Investment Molds for Metal Casting, and Silicone Molding and Casting.
In our optional body casting workshop, participants leave with a full head mold!

Intro to Sculpture
Learn the basics of Sculpting or come practice the fundamentals. Geared towards beginners, this course serves as a jumping off point to many other types of sculpture and fabrication. Participants will learn techniques in clay sculpting, armature building, plaster carving, wax carving, basic mold making, casting and finishing. This class is MESSY! Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Advanced Sculpture Workshop
Geared toward more experienced sculptors or those that have finished or are taking our Intro to Sculpture class, this course covers diverse topics such as mixed media sculpture, basic metal work, plastic fabrication, fiberglass molds and casting, foam sculpting and metal casting. Class time is split between instruction and open workshop time. This class is MESSY! Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Perfect for those seeking time to work on their own sculpting projects!
